History Of Leah’s Place
The vision for Leah’s Place began to take shape in 2017. Jess knew that the world needed a safe space to offer to mothers faced with unspeakable hardships and difficult choices. One by one, the team began to step forward, beginning with Carolyn in 2017 and then Catherine in 2018.
As our goals became specific and our plans for growth began to materialize, March of 2020 arrived and placed a hold on life as we knew it.
During the autumn of 2020, Jess met Leah.
Leah then introduced Jess to Rob, Cherie, Shelbi, and Sal. Martha would join in 2022. The Leah’s Place Board of Directors united with a common understanding that a more just and kind world for children begins with wellness and stability for their primary caregiver. We know from what we have seen in our walk with vulnerable children, that for children born into to inter-generational complex trauma, such as those whose parent/s are affected by domestic abuse or sex trafficking, there is a significant probability is that they will repeat these cycles with their own children if they survive long enough to have them. We also know that intervention onto destructive patterns of behavior during pregnancy has the power to break the cycle of pain, shame, abuse, and suffering for both mothers and children. Family unity between mothers and children is a joy worthy of protecting. Safe spaces save lives.
In 2022 our Board of Directors remains steadfast in our mission to bring this project to completion. We look forward to the day that we welcome our first family into Leah’s Place and begin nurturing growth, change, and healing for these mothers so that their children might overcome the odds and thrive.
